Slums Attack's first album, released on September 5, 1996, by PH Kopalnia (later RRX), was nothing less than the start of Rychu Peja's marathon towards nationwide success. The album features tracks such as Bronx, Przemoc, and even the infamous 997, which left a lasting impression on old-school listeners for years. This is the raw, pissed-off, and uncompromising sound of SLU in the mid-nineties. Almost 30 years have passed since then, during which the album has received reissues with restored cassette cover art and bonus CDs featuring demo versions recorded at the Poznań-based "Czad" Studio.
To mark such a massive anniversary, we have undertaken the task of releasing the Slums Attack album on double vinyl for the first time, with the original 1995 demo versions included on the second disc. The entire project is being mastered in the analog world by DJ. Eproma, who, as a fan of this release, took on the challenge with great joy. "This album was recorded using a tape system on a large Ampex reel-to-reel tape recorder" – Peja recalls. If you wanted to re-record something, fix it, or simply make a so-called "edit" or "splice," there was no way to save it as a WAV file on a computer and insert or paste it into the right place with a mouse. Our editing system relied on tape recorder tracks. Those were crazy and at the same time wonderful times, because everything was completely new to us from the start. We had no experience beyond the "home-made" method of working at home and experiments at the "Czad" studio, where we worked on a four-track Tascam cassette recorder. Despite this, the desire to release an album pushed us into the arms of a wonderful man – Andrzej Mikołajczak, who infected me with studio work. It was thanks to him that I became interested in many Polish big beat releases and generally our entire broadly defined musical heritage released on wax – Rychu says. I remember days when instead of dreaming up more gangster visions, we simply sat in A-Mix Studio and Mr. Andrzej, as we called him then, played. And he played beautifully. His Intro, which opens the disc to this day, is a masterpiece to me. It is not for nothing that I often went out to him with pride during concerts (the famous Fifteen-Stack at the Arena is proof of recognition of Andrzej Mikołajczak's talent, passion, and educational qualities). For me, it is an absolute tearjerker, I don't know why, but every time I hear this Intro, I feel moved. Today, when I look at these same analog tape recorders at Eproma, I am happy that we are doing this together and that what was created with great effort today matters to so many people.
On the occasion of the disc's 30th birthday, we decided to design the vinyl edition in three versions:
In addition, there is a 2 CD version (remastered by Emprom) in an elegant digipack. We would definitely like to sign the pre-orders, so we will make a limited PICTURE DISC for the first batch. As for other editions, we don't know yet – Iceman adds enigmatically.
