Alternatywny rock, Rock

Projekt Volodia's third album, "I Don't Want to Be a Poet," is a special one for the band. After the first two, filled with arrangements of songs by other artists—Włodzimierz Wysocki, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, and the Tiger Lillies—after several years on tour, during which they visited the most remote community centers, long forgotten by the Minister and local authorities, with a slightly changed lineup, they entered the studio to record almost entirely their own material—musically.

As the classic said, "talking about music is like dancing to architecture," so the musicians leave the stylistic classifications and labeling to the experts. As with the Project's previous albums, there's certainly plenty of good rock, a bit of alternative, sung poetry, and a touch of many other genres. The album's only cover, by Tom Waits, might offer a clue, as does the rich, colorful instrumentation. It's a clue, though the inspirations range from Vladimir Vysotsky to Bill Frisell.

As one journalist put it during an interview after one of the concerts, this genre can be described as: "Sung poetry of the 21st century".

We are among those for whom words are at least as important as the music itself, which should serve as a vehicle for the text. That's why we've composed music for poems by our favorite poets—Władysław Broniewski, Andrzej Bursa, Czesław Miłosz—as well as texts by Roman Kołakowski and Janusz Kasprowicz (the name obliges).

So if you appreciate great lyrics and authentic, live music played by a few experienced guys who've been around for a while, the few dozen minutes you spend listening to Projekt Volodia's latest album will certainly not be wasted. Especially since they've returned to the vinyl format and the whole thing clocks in at around forty-something minutes.

So much for the introduction. From now on, let the music speak for itself. Enjoy and enjoy.
