Tupaczewski is known as the founder of the OT.TO cabaret. He has been associated with it continuously for years. However, few people know his other side – the quiet, romantic bard. He not only writes and sings his own sensual confessions, but also translates songs by Goran Bregovic and Karel Kryl into Polish. This new project, his first solo album, is a lyrical "coming out" of the poet hiding behind the mask of a cabaret performer.
"Letters" is an album about feelings, disappointments, and acceptance, but above all, about love, the most powerful force guiding our lives. Each song on the album could be a letter. And each of us has an address, known only to ourselves, to which we could send the written lyrics of one of the songs. This is also the case with this album, whose author believes he will reach the right recipient.
The ten-song set consists mostly of original compositions, written through life and only transcribed by the author, such as "Dobra Wróżka" (Good Fortune Teller), "List do ASM" (Letter to ASM), "Tak Długo jak ja" (As Long as I Am), and "Fotografia" (Photography). But there are also compositions by other artists. Songs with whom Tupaczewski has been friends for years include Leonard Cohen's "Słynny Błękitny Duchowiec" (The Famous Blue Trench Coat), Robert Piwowar's "Ziarenko" (Seed), "Dwa teatry" (Two Theaters), and Edward Stachura's "Z nim będzie szczęjsza" (You'll Be Happier With Him) – the latter set to Tupaczewski's music. The album is rounded out by songs translated by Tupaczewski, including "Dzień św. Georgego" (St. George's Day) (Djurdjevdan) by Goran Bregovic and "Miłość" (Love) (Lasko) by Karel Kryl. The intention behind recording these songs was to provide listeners with translations faithful to the originals.
The album's production and sound are the work of talented vocalist and music producer Kovalczyk. Tupaczewski is accompanied musically by two young and renowned instrumentalists. On the accordion, virtuoso Patryk Sztabiński, considered one of the most outstanding accordionists of the younger generation, has performed in many prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York.
The album surprises with its cohesion, subtle atmosphere, and above all, its masterful blend of acoustic guitar and accordion. It also holds many other surprises that everyone should discover individually. It's also worth checking out if these "Letters" aren't written for you.
