Wojtek Oliński Am I Going The Right Way?

Wojtek Oliński's debut album demonstrates that, despite his youth, this young man possesses immense arranging and composing skills. The immense amount of guitar energy contained within the nine tracks is a perfect example of Wojtek being a musician who can stand face-to-face with the greats of guitar music without the slightest embarrassment or apprehension. These compositions are skillfully arranged and impeccably played.

Here's what Wojtek writes about himself:

For as long as I can remember, I've watched my dad play guitar with interest. At age six, I asked him to show me my first few chords. My parents encouraged me to go to music school, but at first I completely ignored it, claiming it wouldn't be of any use to me. However, by age eight, I had matured a bit and listened to my parents. I found a great teacher who was open to all musical styles, so even though we played classical etudes, I told him about Joe Bonamassa.

Since joining the Jazz Guitar Department as a sophomore, I've had the pleasure of playing numerous concerts with such stars of Polish music as Krzysztof Cugowski, Sebastian Riedel, and Wojtek Pilichowski. With the Września Orchestra, I've had the pleasure of playing with Krystyna Prońko, Grażyna Łobaszewska, Andrzej Rybiński, Izabela Zalewska, and Kuba Badach. I also had the honor of performing at the Guinness World Record for Guitar, courtesy of Leszek Ciechoński, who served as a juror at one of the Guitar Day competitions.

It's hard to say who inspires me most musically, but musicians like Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Pat Metheny, and Plini have certainly had a significant impact on my playing. However, I also owe both my taste and the motivation to develop to my parents and my girlfriend, Iga, without whom I couldn't create and grow.

His father, a great guitarist and composer, Marcin Oliński, has a remarkable influence on his education and the way he plays the instrument.

The album 'Am I Going the Right Way?' is hopefully just the beginning of the career of this young virtuoso who, under the guidance of his parents, starts with a high 'C' and sets the bar very high.
